We are into the third nine weeks and starting many new adventures in learning! Using our Common Core Standards as a base we are focusing in science on understanding how objects are described based on their physical properties and how they are used. We are conducting two experiments to share at the Science Fair at the end of the month; Can Celery Sip? and What Sinks and Floats? Be sure to mark your calendars and come and see all the great science from Pollocksville school. In Social Studies we are studying Japanese language, food, dress, and culture. We will be able to count to 10 in Japanese, sing Head,Shoulders, Knees, and Toes in Japanese, and produce some Japanese art. Don't forget February is Dental Health month and we are reviewing good dental hygiene. This quarter we will be celebrating the 100th day of school with many activities and projects. Please help your child count to 100, by ones and tens so they can join the 100 Club! In reading we are continuing our journey to become life-long readers. We have learned many reading strategies to help us become better readers, like picture reading, finding all the words we know, retelling the story, and our favorite EEKK! Elbow to Elbow and Knee to Knee with a friend. Please continue to read to your child every night as this promotes fluency and vocabulary power.
